With the development of technology, the need for energy is increasing day by day. Therefore, the importance of renewable energy is better understood. Electricity generation with wind turbines is one of the fields of renewable energy sources.
Heated air mass goes up in atmosphere. Cold air mass goes to emptied where. These descending and ascending movements cause of a loop. 1-2% of the solar energy is converted to wind energy. This converting repeats continuously during the sun heats air mass.
Wind turbine is based on converting of mechanical energy to electrical energy. Moving air has driving power. With this power, air turns rotor as strikes to turbine blade. Therefore mechanical energy is emerged. This mechanical energy is directed to generators. The mechanical energy converts to electrical energy in generators.
Parts of wind turbines:
Generator, control units and shaft are in the nacelle that on the tower. The mechanical energy that is consisted on rotor blades is transferred to the nacelle with the shaft. There are different types of wind turbines as horizontal-axis, vertical-axis and inclined-axis. The horizontal-axis type is preferred in application of wind turbines usually.
Slip rings continuously transmit the electrical signals and power from stationary wires that connected to the motor to the rotating part. Slip rings are connected to the outer diameter of the rotating metal ring. Slipring transmits the electrical signals with its brush while blades rotate. Slip-rings increase the performance of the system in wind turbines. Slip rings are the solution for rotary system applications. As slipring provides uninterrupted transmission, it offers high efficiency.
